These change agents are ready to greet our Little Lancers at BCEL tomorrow!!!
We spent part of the afternoon planting succulents together. This year is all about "Rooting for Each Other" and making the 24/25 school year a "SUCC"ess!!!! BCEL is wishing everyone the very best school year!!
BCEL would like to give a big thank you to Remax for sharing your balloon with us today!!! What an awesome experience!!! We sure do love our community and the support they give to our students!!
Ms. Heider's very smart Young Five students enjoyed their math lesson outside today! The kids did an amazing job learning new material, practicing this new skill, and being respectful! I love that our teachers utilize our space throughout their day!
Mrs. Hedlund's BCEL Kindergarteners enjoyed a beautiful day at the Saginaw Children's Zoo yesterday!!! Lots of fun was had exploring all that the zoo has to offer!!!!
BCEL students worked really hard today helping Mrs. Pretzer spruce up our pollinator garden. Students also recorded all the living things they found as they were racking and pulling weeds. The kids did such a great job asking questions about the plants they were taking care of, the living things they found, why we needed to pull weeds, how the mulch was helping, and lots and lots of other questions and rich conversations! I am so proud of the ownership these kids have for our school and our nature spaces! Thank you to Mrs. Pretzer for organizing this day! It is looking beautiful!
Mrs. Williamson, our amazing ASD teacher, and Mrs. Pretzer, our equally fantastic district nature coordinator, worked really hard on a grant to support a peer-to-peer group here at BCEL! They were awarded this grant which allowed them to purchase things to create raised gardens out in our courtyard. During recess yesterday our first peer group got together to enjoy some planting time in the sun! Peers had a great time planting, talking, giggling, and interacting with each other! Thanks for all of your hard work kids! We love these special times together!
Ms. Heider's young five students at BCEL have spend the last several week trying to hatch chicks. Well....yesterday their patience paid off when they began hatch!!! The excitement in that room is off the charts!! Welcome to the world little chicks!
This has been such an amazing experience for these students to study how chickens hatch!
Some BCEL students enjoyed a special visit from a few staff members from the Center of the Arts today. These students were able to explore the steps of invention as they created, innovated, collaborated, and problem-solved through these amazing activities inspired by the stories of Andrea Beaty. Students explored the scientific process as they experimented like Ada Twist, engineered a flying machine like Rosie Revere, and worked as a team to construct a bridge just like Iggy Peck and his classmates!
What a fun and exciting way to make self to text connections and to connect with these experts from our community!
Ms. Heider's Young Five writers enjoyed this beautiful day at BCEL by taking their journals outside!!! The sunshine and warm temperatures inspired them to do their very best!!! Great job little authors!!!

We are so proud of you and are excited to have your creation marking the progress in our reading books during March is Reading Month and beyond!!
BCEL's second grade students had the chance to do some public speaking this week through an authors share event! Parents were treated to the published works of their students as they bravely got up on stage to read their pieces! We are so incredibly proud of all the hard work that went into this event. Students planned, drafted, revised, and published their writing in order to be ready for authors share.
Thank you 2nd grade teachers for all the work put into this experience for our kids and our families!
This week BCEL was filled with so many events and activities! We were feeling the love of Valentine's Day!!
Ms. Terrill, one of our Young Fives teachers, organized a school-wide community service project. She, along with our other amazing classroom teachers, had BCEL students make Valentine's Day cards for the residents of Riverside. Ms. Terrill delivered our cards and art projects on Wednesday so that the residents could receive something special on a day filled with love!
We sure do love to spread the love :)
Thank you, Ms. Terrill, for organizing this project!
To end National Counselors Week BCEL wants to brag all over our very own superhero, Mrs. Clapp!! Mrs. Clapp not only supports our students and families but she adds positivity, spunk, and support to our staff and school culture!! BCEL would not be the same without the unwavering support of our Mrs. Clapp. The entire BCEL family wants to shout it from the rooftops: WE LOVE OUR MRS. CLAPP!!! Thank you for all that you do for us!!
Ms. Heider's Young Five readers were treated to an amazing experience today as they paired up with our 2nd-grade friends in Mrs. Napoli's class!
