Mr. Wright's 5th graders spent some time in the woods today exploring ecosystems and the food chain. They used the Seek app to identify different organisms and then will research their organism and create a food chain based off of their found organism.
Floyd Elementary had the pleasure of hosting Leadership Midland today. The group was able to take a tour and learn about Bullock Creek's Nature Program!

As Floyd's KinderCamp came to a close Friday morning, 5th grade students had the honor of walking this year's kindergartners to their assigned classroom as the rest of the students and staff lined the hallway to celebrate with them. Thank you to the many adults who adjusted their schedules to spend extra time teaching lessons, expectations, routines, and friendship during KinderCamp. Thank you to our wonderful kindergarten parents for your patience and trust. We look forward to all the great things our newest school family members will do this year!
Floyd 5th graders spent some time getting to know our newest school members earlier this week. Lots of laughs and fun in the nature area!
Floyd fourth graders flagged down Mrs. Moses at lunch Thursday to express concern over a puddle with what looked like tadpoles in it that was drying up at the base of a slide. With help from Mrs. Pretzer and students willing to take on a rescue mission during recess, these living things were moved from the playground puddle to our pond. The spontaneous and caring activity was a highlight of our day.
Floyd 3rd graders in Mrs. Diaz's class worked together to make the longest chain by using just one sheet of construction paper in 30 minutes. It was a fun team building activity!
Floyd students in Mr. Gusler's 2nd grade are enjoying journaling during their nature time. They now have 'nature bags' to carry supplies in thanks to Mrs. Stevens' summer sewing project.
Mrs. Carloyn Brown, Floyd teacher and volunteer coach, would like to remind Floyd families that she is registering Floyd Cross Country runners all summer in preparation for the fall season. Please see attached for more information.
It was field day at Floyd today! All of our favorite games were prepared by Mrs. Chaffin for us. A big thanks to the Lee Township Fire Department for the truck tours and water spray. It was an especially happy day!
Miss Clark’s kindergartners had a chance to read with Mrs. Korson’s third graders as the school year winds down.
A group of fourth grade boys wanted to learn how to make healthy snacks. They picked out a recipe and made a fun fruit and veggie tree for their class.
Floyd 3rd graders were flying in Math Lab. They made paper airplanes and measured the the distances of four different trials. They also tested adding paper clips onto the planes to see how that impacted the distance.
Congratulations to the Floyd School 2023 Girls on the Run team! They successfully completed a 5K over the weekend. A big thank you to coaches Carolyn Brown, Emily Collison, Ellie Pretzer, Sami Clark, and Aubrey Brown, as well as all the parents and running buddies. We are proud of you all!
3rd and 4th graders had some fun with edible math activities with Mrs. Bluemer.
Just prior to spring break, Floyd Elementary students in Mrs. Carey's class were treated to a fun read by Mr. Hale. What a treat to wear PJ's to school for spirit day AND have a special reading guest!
These generous students had a working lunch today organizing and preparing the next batch of Creeker Coupons for their Floyd peers. Each day we celebrate safe, respectful, and responsible choices made at school and on the school bus by recognizing Creeker Coupon recipients on the morning announcements.
3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students have been using Rekenreks to show math thinking. 3rd and 4th grade focused on division. 5th grade used the Rekenreks to create equal groups as they converted a fraction greater than one whole into a mixed number.
Floyd third graders recently gathered in the community room to buddy read for March is Reading Month.
Floyd Elementary students took advantage of an opportunity to show kindness to local doctors. Students colored pictures and wrote messages thanking them for being helpers in our community.
This past weekend, Mr. Hale and a group from Leadership Midland 22' spent the day cutting down trees at Floyd that needed to come down. They also plan to return in April with other Leadership Midland 22' members to make updates and additions to our outdoor classrooms. Thank you Rob Taylor, Shane Bradley, Robb Boerner, Dustin Neumeyer, Ryan Lee, and Tom Stoney. We truly appreciate the time and work you put into this project.
