Middle school dances are the best!
1st graders in Mrs. Chappel's class preview and predict before they dive into reading. This prereading activity sets them up for success as they begin to read their "good fit" books during independent reading time!
We are so proud of our deveping readers!!
BCEL is LOVING Spirit Week!! Today was "Dress like a Grandparent" day and boy did the kids/parents (and our teachers) get creative!!! We had some awesome Grannies and Grappies walking our halls today!!
Most days, our youngest nature students have “explore time” after their nature lessons and investigations. So many things happen during this independent play. Today, during a brief period spent in the sand, I observed many things. Students practiced sharing and communicating with one another, discoveries about what seeds look like inside were made, vocabulary was expanded to describe the textures and appearance of sand and items it contained, and we counted “birthday candles”. Most importantly, we made valuable connections with nature and each other.
Mrs. Hedlund's kindergarten students have focused on finding insects in different habitats the last two weeks and then finished by playing a game to build an insect with all of it's parts we learned about.
Mrs. Hedlund's kindergarten students at BCEL love to build and construct! She definitely has a group of little engineers!!
Next week is our homecoming!
BCEL is excited for all the spirit days, the parade, and the game!
Our spirit week will conclude with a parade and football game on Friday, September 29th. BCEL is not walking in the parade but we encourage you all to find a spot along Stewart Rd or at the High School to watch all the attractions.
We are looking forward to a fun week.
Creek wins! Congratulations to the 7th and 8th grade BCMS girls basketball teams. Both teams were victorious over Birch Run tonight.
BCEL has started off the 23/24 school year with a bang! We are learning so many new things and getting settled in! We have explored together out in nature, begun connecting with each other and forming new friendships, learned new rules, expectations, and procedures, and started to learn how to function as a group here at school.
This is going to be an amazing year of growth for everyone!
Mrs. Carey's class practiced their investigative skills last week by using spoons for digging, color swatches to compare items found in nature, and magnifying lenses. It was a great opportunity to not only learn procedures for investigating, but for working with others and using descriptive language.
Bullock Creek honored our veterans last night during the home Varsity Football game against Michigan Lutheran Seminary.. 21 gun salute, taps, National Anthem and a 28-0 victory....It was a great evening!
Ms. Terrill's class at BCEL investigated parts of a plant by engaging in activities about sunflowers. They pulled out a gigantic sunflower so they could see and touch the roots, stem, leaves, flowers and seeds.
BCEL students are being encouraged to read read read!!! Students can send in names of books they read/ have read to them and have that title added to our caterpillar! We can't wait to watch Carl the Caterpillar grow!
Floyd Elementary had the pleasure of hosting Leadership Midland today. The group was able to take a tour and learn about Bullock Creek's Nature Program!
Thank you Leadership Midland!
We've made so many discoveries and connections to nature in our first couple weeks of school.
Our students at Floyd love the sidewalk activities painted by Leadership Midland class of 23 and our parent volunteer Amy Mudd.
