Most days, our youngest nature students have “explore time” after their nature lessons and investigations. So many things happen during this independent play. Today, during a brief period spent in the sand, I observed many things. Students practiced sharing and communicating with one another, discoveries about what seeds look like inside were made, vocabulary was expanded to describe the textures and appearance of sand and items it contained, and we counted “birthday candles”. Most importantly, we made valuable connections with nature and each other.

Next week is our homecoming! BCEL is excited for all the spirit days, the parade, and the game! Our spirit week will conclude with a parade and football game on Friday, September 29th.   BCEL is not walking in the parade but we encourage you all to find a spot along Stewart Rd or at the High School to watch all the attractions.  We are looking forward to a fun week.

BCEL has started off the 23/24 school year with a bang! We are learning so many new things and getting settled in! We have explored together out in nature, begun connecting with each other and forming new friendships, learned new rules, expectations, and procedures, and started to learn how to function as a group here at school. This is going to be an amazing year of growth for everyone!

Mrs. Carey's class practiced their investigative skills last week by using spoons for digging, color swatches to compare items found in nature, and magnifying lenses. It was a great opportunity to not only learn procedures for investigating, but for working with others and using descriptive language.
